Full day, hands-on workshops descriptions


Come experience a full day of comraderie learning how to sew beautiful soft furnishings for your home. Our day begins with coffee & pastries and a tour of our beautiful and inspiring drapery showroom & design studio. Each student will receive a binder with all of our days' detailed instructions, inspirational pictures, along with resources for all of our supplies and tools of the trade. We will select the designer fabrics & linings to be used in the days' project. Then we will jump right into our morning hands-on learning session until we break for a catered lunch. Our afternoon  session will continue as the students complete their projects. We will have a wrap up session at the end of the day to show some more inspirational ideas based off of what they just learned. Space is limited to 6 students per workshop to insure maximum benefit of instruction. Each participant will receive a 15% off discount on designer fabrics, hardware & trims from our showroom for 6 months after the class.

March 13  -  Draperies  1 day workshop, 8:30am-5pm  $185.00/$45.00 kit fee

Learn how to measure your window and calculate the yardage and fullness needed to make a pair of draperies. We will explore some typical drapery hardware options which plays into the length and width of our panels. We will learn how to make a flat panel using industrial commercial machines and professional workroom tools. By the end of the day each student will have a sample size working pair of pleated drapes along with a very detailed instructional binder to refer back to on future projects.

March 13-15th Drapery series 3 day workshop 8:30am-5pm ea. day  $555.00/$135.00 kit fee

This in depth workshop includes day one mentioned above and builds off those fundamental instructions. On day two we will learn how to make a grommet drapery panel using a grommet press & cutter. We will learn how to calculate the spacing for the grommets and look at different hardware options. By the end of the day each student will have a sample size working pair of grommet panels along with detailed instructions to add to their reference binders. On day three we will learn how to make an advanced hand sewn interlined drapery panel with embellishments along with a pleat sampler with several pleat styles to take home as a reference.

April 10 - Top treatments  1 day workshop  8:30am-5pm  $185.00 / $45.00 kit fee

Learn how to measure your window for the proper fit of your top treatment or valance. We will discuss proper proportion and scale along with lining options while talking about installation heights that all have to be taken into consideration. We will be making a box pleated valance from start to finish, learning how to board mount these treatments and finishing off the dust cap for a professional finish. We will look at various options such as banding, arched & scalloped details for these timeless top treatments. Each participant will leave with a finished sample along with a detailed binder to refer back to on future projects.

April 10-12th  Top treatment series  3 day workshop 8:30am-5pm ea. day   $555.00/$135.00 kit fee

This in depth workshop includes day one mentioned above and builds off those fundamental instructions. On day two we will dive into professional valance patterns and learn how to make a valance mounted from medallions. We will explore  the different hardware options for mounting these treatments along with answering installation concerns. By the end of the day each student will have a finished sample along with detailed instructions to add to their binder. On day three we will make a beautiful pole mounted valance with contrast lining and micro cord details that will give a professional finish to your valance.

May 8th - Fabric shades  1 day workshop  8:30am-5pm   $185.00 / $45.00 kit fee

Learn how to make a working flat roman fabric shade. We will learn about inside verses outside mounted shades, the best fabric types and linings to use. With all the child safety issues concerning cord safety we will discuss what this means & show you how to make a compliant shade that meets these safety standards. Each student will make and take home a working sample along with a detailed instructional binder for future reference.

May 8-10th Fabric shade series  3 day workshop  8:30am - 5pm ea. day  $555.00 / $135.00 kit fee

This in depth workshop includes day one mentioned above and builds off those fundamental instructions. On day two we will make a balloon shade sample. We will explore different lift mechanisms that are available for both corded and cordless options. On day three we will make a pleated London shade with contrast pleats and decorative button details.

June 12th - Basic upholstery  1 day workshop  8:30am - 5pm $185.00 / $45.00 kit fee

Learn how to reupholster a dining room chair seat. We will learn how to take the seat off a chair and remove the original cover. We will talk about foam options and how to cover the foam in a dacron wrap. Then we will recover the seat and learn how to make a welt cord and use cambric fabric to finish it off for a professional look. We will see examples of different skirt options so you can change the look of the original chair. Each student will leave with a finished seat sample and a detailed reference manual.

June 12-14th basic upholstery series  3 day workshop  8:30am-5pm ea. day  $555.00 / $135.00 kit fee

This in depth workshop includes day one mentioned above and builds off those fundamental basics. On day two we will upholster a straight cornice. We will discuss scale and proportion for the finished size. Each student will build a sample cornice, cover it with dacron and upholster it with a welt cord on the bottom edge, making sure to finish off the inside for a complete professional look. On day three we will upholster a footstool, using a basic shape we will add foam and dacron. We will talk about different styles and options and see different skirt samples. We will upholster the footstool and use welt cord and a lined skirt. Each student will leave with a finished sample footstool and detailed instructions to add to their binder.

November 13-15th Holiday class - pillows, table runners, stockings & embellishments  3 day workshop  8:30am-5pm ea. day  $555.00 / $45.00 kit fee

In this in-depth class we will learn how to make a zippered pillow with a welt cord on day one. We will make a sample of both a lapped zipper and a center seam zipper closure as well as learn some fabric embellishiments that can be used on pillows, table runners & stockings. We will make a custom poly-fil  insert to fit our pillow perfectly. We will discuss pattern placement and design options. On day two we will make a table runner, mixing and matching different fabrics, textures and trims. We will look at different examples of styles and shapes. By the end of the day each student will have made a reversible embellished table runner. On day three we will make a beautiful designer stocking with all the bells and whistles. Each student will leave with a detailed binder with all of the instructions and inspirational photos for future projects.
